February Home Maintenance Checklist

February

1. Sanitize Garbage Disposal

How: Utilize a garbage disposal cleaner, such as Affresh Garbage Disposal. Run hot water into the sink (avoiding direct disposal contact) and activate the unit for a few minutes.

Why: Eliminates odors, removes debris, and maintains a clean and efficient garbage disposal.

February

2. Sanitize Washing Machine

How:  Dump a Tide washing machine sanitation packet into the washing machine and initiate a sanitation cycle. In the absence of a dedicated sanitation cycle, run the machine on the hottest temperature setting available.

Why: This process helps eliminate bacteria and build-up within the washing machine, ensuring a hygienic environment for your laundry. Regular sanitation maintenance contributes to improved washing machine performance and extends its overall lifespan.

February

3. Sanitize Dishwasher Tub

How: You just need to put one True Fresh Tablet in the dishwasher detergent pod tray and run the cleaning mode cycle and the tablets will do the rest.

Why: These dishwasher tabs make your dishwasher appliances look clean, fresh, and shiny by getting rid of grease, lime scale, mineral buildups, hard water stains, grime, and other dirty substances

February

4. Clean Dishwasher Filter

How: Remove the filter, rinse it under warm water, and scrub with a soft brush.

Why: A clean filter ensures proper drainage and prevents food particles from clogging the dishwasher.

February

5. Replace Air Filters

Additional Notes: Frequency of replacement and MERV rating is highly dependent on your needs and preferences. If you have an older house or lots of pets, consider a filter with a MERV rating of 13 or higher, necessitating monthly replacement. While many AC professionals advise a lower MERV rating for optimal performance in the Texas heat, allowing the HVAC system to breathe, the choice ultimately rests on your individual requirements and considerations.

February

6. Water Softener Maintenance

How: Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for adding salt and cleaning the brine tank.

Why: Ensures the water softener operates effectively, preventing mineral buildup in pipes and appliances.

February

7. Leak Check

How: Inspect faucets, pipes, and appliances for any signs of leaks.

Why: Early detection of leaks prevents water damage and mold growth.

February

8. Check and Clean Dryer Vents

How: Disconnect the vent, clean lint buildup, and ensure proper ventilation.

Why: Reduces the risk of dryer fires, improves efficiency, and extends the life of the dryer.

February

9. Test and Reset Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCIs)

How: Press the test button, and if the GFCI trips, press the reset button.

Why: Ensures the safety of electrical outlets, particularly in areas prone to moisture.
